Re:HELP Moths!!! - 2007/06/02 21:47 Ok, first of all, calm down, it's really not that big of a deal.

Look through any wool garments and check for holes and eaten places. Then look through your fiber and check for eggs. If you don't find any, then probably no damage was done.

As a precaution, you can seal all your fiber in a plastic bag for two weeks. This should kill anything in there.

I wouldn't exclude yourself from the fiber swap over this, just be sure to check carefully, the eggs will look like little maggots. No eggs = no problem, but you might seal them into plastic, just to be safe. I store my fiber in plastic bags, in boxes. Some people say this is bad, but I have never had an troubles with it. You do need to be sure the fiber is not damp at all to avoid mold. I also wouldn't store raw fleece this way for long, because of the lanolin.
If you fall off, get back on and try again.

Re:HELP Moths!!! - 2007/06/03 06:52 If you have fiber or yarn you will find bagging it and putting it in the freezer will help.

Re:HELP Moths!!! - 2007/06/04 05:47 That is an excellent idea! i know heat will do it, think black plastic bag in hot summer sun, never thought of the freezer though. Excellent! If you fall off, get back on and try again.

Re:HELP Moths!!! - 2007/06/17 23:30 I have never found plastic bags to be a good thing for wool myself. It creates moisture which can damage your wool .The only other thing i would suggest is those vacuum sealed bags that you suck all the air out of. That might kill the bugs but i'm not sure about the eggs.

Re:HELP Moths!!! - 2007/06/18 19:01 Fortunatly I think it was a false alarm. I went through my whole stash and found no eggs or larve. So, he was either a lone male webbing moth looking for a mate and therefore harmless, or I misidentified it. Considering I do not have a degree in entimology, who knows.

Anyway thanks everyone.
