Re:Tablett weaving - 2007/09/12 15:29 I've done tablet weaving. From my experience, what you want in a yarn is something that is strong as the warp threads get put under a heck of a lot of strain. I had loads of breakages with standard knitting yarn and eventually went onto a medium weight crocheting cotton which was heavenly to use as it was so smooth and strong! Not sure if I can post images here but I'll give it a go

That's a belt I wove from the cotton in doubleface weave. Took months! T'was worth it though

Re:Tablett weaving - 2007/09/12 15:32 Oh, I forgot to add - best ever program for the budding tablet weaver, Guntrams Tabletweaving Thingy!

http://www.guntram.co.za/tabletweaving/

Check that guy out, he does some fantastic weaves and has patterns galore for use with his *free* program

Re:Tablett weaving - 2007/09/12 21:46 ok, so you actually know what your doing. I didn't, I made it up as I went, bumbling through it and figureing it out! Please let me know if I did something really wrong or stupid.

I bow to the greatness of your tablet weaving, and also welcome you to the community.

ahem, what's it going to cost me to get you to write a weaving article for us? I'm very good at bribing...

Re:Tablett weaving - 2007/09/12 22:15 Hi Allena, thanks for the welcome

I'm no expert! I can do doubleface braid ok but I can't seem to get the hang of the threaded-in patterns which theoretically should be easier. If you want I'll try and do an article on doubleface weaves, though it might take me a while.

I was taught by Thorskegga Thorn, she has a booklet available on Amazon which is fantastic and there are loads of links on the site Weavershand - http://www.weavershand.com/ - which have good instructions.

If you want to do a doubleface weave Guntrams GTT program is a lifesaver though. You can work out the design and it'll tell you which cards you need to turn for each pick (a pick being 2 half turns with a weft pass after each turn, IIRC). I made a simple loom for that belt, it's the longest thing I've done and needed a bit of support. I'm seriously thinking about making an incle loom soon as well

Wassail!

Re:Tablett weaving - 2007/09/15 20:31 Was that English ROFL.

You are so way ahead of me on this, I need a book or something...

I would LOVE an article on the double face weave. What I did in the tutorial is the extent of my knowledge.

LOL
