Looking for forum suggestions - 2007/08/04 08:35
The forums have been a little slow lately. I've been pondering ways to make them more relevant, so I have some questions for everyone. Please weigh in with suggestions! Lurking is not allowed! Your opinions are as important as everyone else's, even if all you say is "I think that's a great idea too!"
So my first thought is about the forum section for the current issue's articles. We put one up for the first issue, but really it didn't seem to active, so I'm thinking about taking it down. We didn't put one up for the second issue for this reason. What do you think? Should we start a new forum section for every issue? Should we keep it up when a new issue comes out?
Right now we've only got 11 categories to post in. This seems small, but I'm not really sure what else to put up - although it just occurred to me we don't have a category for weaving (which I'll rectify after I'm done writing this post). What else would you like to see? I think this is an important one. One of our goals is to build a thriving community at Spindle And Wheel, and a bored community doesn't thrive.
What about patterns? We've only received a few, and we can only come up with so many ourselves (they take a while to write, you know?). What kinds of patterns are "hot" right now? What about tried and true? Things most folks would like to see/use?
What about article submissions? Anybody out there think "boy, I could sure write a nifty article"?
We know that other sites pay for article submissions - right now we send a "thank you gift", but as the site takes off, we'll be able to offer nicer rewards for submissions.
We love getting article and pattern submissions! We spend a LOT of time writing, and again even if we don't get submissions, ideas for new articles are truly appreciated - the things that can be done with fiber are diverse, and we have the area's we've focused on, but there's a lot we still don't know!
So what else? What am I missing? How can we make Spindle And Wheel the best fiber site on the web? That's a lofty goal, but you gotta aim for the stars
