Finished project... - 2007/06/24 16:30 Didn't know exactly where to put this.. so if it needs to be moved, it won't offend me...

I just finished a fingerwoven scarf with some handspun and commercial yarn...

Re:Finished project... - 2007/06/26 09:13 There was supposed to be a place for this, but we missed it. When it gets made, we will move the post.

I love this scarf, is it your pattern? It is just lovely.
If you fall off, get back on and try again.

The pattern isn't mine.. I'm still learning... I got this from the woman who taught me. It's an ancient Amerind design. The technique is useful when you want to weave something really wide.. I've been practicing on some scarves, but what I really want to do is take my 'leftovers' and try making a blanket...

Re:Finished project... - 2007/06/26 13:00 How do you finger weave? Weaving is a whole new topic for me so I am totally in the dark. Love your scarf, how long did it take you to make it?

Re:Finished project... - 2007/06/26 16:02 You weave with your fingers.. no loom involved. If you google finger weaving, there are some sites that you can peruse.

Basically, you set up strands of yarn each wrapped once around a dowel starting in the center of the strand. Then you start with the one on the end (doesn't matter which end), and you weave with it, over, under, over, under.. till you get to the other side. Then you go back to the beginning, find the next end strand, and weave over, under, over, under, till you get to the end. Does this make sense?

You weave one half... remove the dowel by sliding it out, and then weave the other half..

What happens is that the weaver is dropped when you finish with it, and it goes back into the rest of the strands.

When you weave with verigated yarn, you get all kinds of wonderful patterns that appear...
