Trouble with plying - 2007/06/23 10:01 Last night, I sat down to ply some alpaca that I had spun on my drop spindle... I had left it on the spindle and put it out of reach of my grandson while he was here...

Anyhow.. it seemed as if the single had no twist in it. I went ahead and sort of plied it, and I'm going to use it in some fingerweaving that I have planned. But can anyone tell me why it would react that way?

Re:Trouble with plying - 2007/06/23 14:32 A few things are probably going on.

1) Alpaca needs alot of twist.

2) When you ply you loose some of your original twist.

3) When you let it sit the twist set (just like if you put your hair in curlers) so it wasn't self plying anymore. Many spinners deliberately let the singles rest and set b/c they are then easier to manage.
