...and from the Left Coast - 2007/06/20 14:34
OK, let's see...
My name is Dawn and I'm a fiberholic.
I come by this addiction honestly, as nearly every woman in my family tree was/is a fiberholic too. My mother was my first enabler--she taught me to crochet when I was 5, and then "dragged" me to Super Yarn Mart to keep her (and my) addictions well-supplied. The women in the Ventura County Handweavers and Spinners Guild set me on the path to weaving perdition by letting me weave on one of their looms when I was 8 and visiting the county fair. I made sure to marry a wonderful man who is a complete enabler--he bought me my first spinning wheel.
At this point, I spin, dye, weave, knit, crochet, sew, and do nearly every type of fiber-related handwork except quilting, basketweaving, and tatting. When I'm not doing the fiber stuff, I'm putting up award-winning jams, jellies, and pickles, doing historical reenacting, or working on this barn of a Victorian house here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Oh, and in my "vast amounts of spare time," I'm a full-time high school social studies (mostly History) teacher.
At this point, I've given up trying to fight the addiction, and I just glory in it--after all, it's cheaper and healthier than drugs or drink, and I get lots of cool stuff!
