Checking in! - 2007/06/18 12:58 Hello,
A fellow soapmaker (Swamp_Deb) posted a link to the online magazine and I found this forum.

My name is Cyndi, I started spindling back in 1998 without a clue as to what I was doing. My BF (now DH) made me a bottom whorl spindle and sent me a sack of raw wool. I purchased some hand carders and away I went!

For a wedding present in 2003, DH bought me my first wheel, and Ashford Traditional, DT, DB with scotch tension option. Since then he has supported my fiber addiction and bought me an antique Irish style wheel (circa mid 1700's) and the latest is a great wheel with a Minor's head. I also have a 70's era Ashford Traditional.

We do have a functioning homestead but we don't keep any fiber animals. I rather have a greater selection of fiber and support shepherdresses.

I'm thrilled to be amongst like minded folks!!

Re:Checking in! - 2007/06/18 13:28 Hi Cyndi *waves* and welcome to the forum.

I learnt to spin on an Ashford Traditional - it was my mum's first wheel and I was about 4 years old I have a fond place in my memory for that model.

You're very lucky having such a very supportive hubby! Mine's pretty good too, but he wouldn't know where to buy me fibre

Re:Checking in! - 2007/06/18 14:02 The first fleece I learned on was from friends of his in Montana that ran a cattle ranch. They kept a small flock of meat sheep (pasture maggots is what they called them). The fleece was heavy with tags, mud, VM, burrs. Nasty!! but it gave me my first 'taste' of fiber.

I keep a 'wish list' with Susan McFarland of Susan's Fiber Shop with suggestions of what equipment I'd like to have!
