 Kids' Yarn Dying Project - 2007/06/10 11:54 I was wondering if the dyes you used - Koolaid, food coloring, etc. - are colorfast. Could you use these products to paint on fabric with and would they not wash out? Thanks.

You could use them to dye fabric but some dyes react differently depending on whether you are dyeing a protein fibre (eg wool) or a plant fibre (eg cotton). I'm not sure how well Koolaid would work for cotton fabrics as I've only seen it used on wool - perhaps you could do some experimenting.

 Re:Kids' Yarn Dying Project - 2007/06/16 10:19 Kool Aid will not dye any kind of cellulose type fiber like cotton well. For that you need a different type of dye.

Kool Aid will dye, wool, hair, silk, soy silk, (anything cut off of any animal) but not any plant based fibers like bamboo or cotton.

I read that soy silk will dye with koolaid, but I haven
t tried it yet. If you fall off, get back on and try again.
