just beginning - 2007/06/09 08:51 My mother-in-law passed away a few months ago and left me her spinning wheel. She loved to spin and I want to learn how to carry on the tradition for her grandchildren. I know nothing about spinning or forums. Any suggestions?

Re:just beginning - 2007/06/10 03:53 There's lots of information on the internet to help you get started - try googling 'learn to spin' and see what you come up with.

Also, check out your local spinning guild branch. Most groups are very welcoming to newcomers and learners and some will have books you can borrow or run classes.

Good luck!

I 'dogpile'd it and couldn't find any references to spinning wheels made by Wm Wheeler Vernon. What type of wheel is it? Saxony? Castle? Walking?

I would love to see a picture of it.

I learned to spin on my own and you can too! My first spinning books was

Re:just beginning - 2007/06/22 18:14 This is what this site is here for to help. I had to just figure it out, and had help from local spinners. Don't worry, you'll figure it out. On the wheel you might look at the tutorial on parts of a wheel, it should be a traditional type wheel like mine, a castle wheel or a great wheel. If you fall off, get back on and try again.
