When rovings rebel... - 2007/07/05 08:30 I'm having issues with a roving that simply will not draft in places... I've pre-drafted, but there are spots that take four strong men and a boy to make draft... What am I doing wrong?

Re:When rovings rebel... - 2007/07/05 10:42 Umm...you're not using enough men. I find that in these cases that the fifth man really makes the difference in the drafting.

Sorry, couldn't resist

Re:When rovings rebel... - 2007/07/05 13:01 Try predrafting with your hands farther apart.

Or 'fluff' up the roving by pulling across the roving first, then predraft with hands farther apart.

This works well for me when I use mill end roving from the Sheep Shed. It gets so compacted in storage to Carol Lee that it needs a good fluffing before drafting.

Then again, I've noticed with this same roving, if it doesn't draft well in one direction, try drafting the other direction.

HTH!
